Military Inspired

The weather on my side of the world has been very unpredictable lately. We basically blow hot and cold these days. On one of the cold days, I layered a simple striped dress with this lovely military inspired coat.
I honestly do not think the military trend will be go away anytime soon. Its been around for a while and is still one of my favorite.
Since I am not a fan of pants, I wear my share of tights and stockings during the colder weather to give me some protection from the cold. You'll be surprised just how warm they can be!

P.S: There's a little sneak peak at the end of this post! Wait for it....

White Holiday

Happy Holidays!

Nothing screams the holidays to me as well as the color white (hint hint, one of my favorite movies of all time, White Christmas). That might be eye roll worthy but, I'm so serious. Girls in white dress, definitely one of my favorite things.

So when Fashion to Figure contacted me about their 12 Days of Glitz and Glam, I was immediately drawn to this beauty right here. I mean lace, swing, the color white, whats not to love! And considering that I had been in a holiday funk lately, this dress was just what I needed to bring me back to life and it did just that.

Also, FTF are giving away a $250 gift card to one lucky follower. All you have to do is share your favorite holiday snap. Make sure to tag @FTFSnaps and use the hashtag #TisTheReason. You must be following @FTFSnaps, and your profile must be set to public. The winner will be announced on @FTFSnaps. Good luck!

Fall Lookbook with Yours Clothing

Hey guys! I am so excited to be publishing this Fall lookbook collaboration that I did with Yours Clothing. If you haven't heard about this brand, allow me to introduce you...

In case you haven't noticed, I tend to lean toward more classic, feminine silhouettes and Yours Clothing is femininity personified. I absolutely adore this Grey Cocoon Parka and though I paired it with this Floral Maxi Skirt, it looks pretty bad ass with destroyed jeans and a tee. It's lightweight but with just perfect for this Fall weather.

I have always loved the effortless chic of a LBD and booties and this is the perfect weather for it too. The lace sleeves on this High Neck Swing Dress keep it just the right amount of goth. This dress will look amazing with dressed up with some heels for a date night.

This last look was supposed to be about this Biker Jacket which is pretty gorgeous as far as moto jackets go, but this Lace Maxi Skirt stole my heart at first sight. I love easy breezy effortless looks (which are not so easy to pull off by the way) but with this skirt pretty much does all the work for you. I styled it with a simple tank here but I can't to style it in different ways.

Yours Clothing is truly a gem for the stylish plus size woman and if you haven't tried them out yet, do so and let me know what you think.

Thanks for stopping by!

Good Olè Combo

The good ole sweater and midi combo can never get old to me since its such a classic, easy look to pull off. I found this gem of a skirt when I stepped into New York and Company some weeks ago. Its so effortless chic and looks like a million bucks in person. I paired it with my favorite cropped sweater and called it a day.

Quite frankly, I've never been one to pull off the co ord look especially when there are pants involved. This set from Fashion to Figure appealed to me for a couple of reasons. First, they are sold as separates so it's really quite easy to pair each piece separately. The print of the fabric was also a selling point, so floral but yet so darkly appealing. The final selling point, its scuba fabric and we know that nothing flatters these thick thighs as well as a scuba fabric. If you're like me and need a minor break in into the world of co ords, this set is perfect for you and it helps a lot that it pretty much looks like a jumpsuit.

On another note, I am so excited for Fall, because I am a huge jacket collector and I have acquired quite the collection over the past years and I cannot wait to show them off. This lightweight cascade jacket is a very recent purchase actually but definitely a worthy addition to my closet. I love colored jackets and this is such a beautiful shade of blue.

It seems like everywhere you look these days, its a cape jacket here or a cape dress there and since I've once been a victim of a cape jacket gone wrong, I was definitely weary of the trend. That is, until I came across this cape dress at Fashion to Figure. Though it is trendy piece, it has a classic appeal to me. I can easily imagine Audrey Hepburn wearing this in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I can also imagine myself wearing it ten years from now and still looking stylish and classy and as we know, such pieces are very hard to come by, so quite frankly I had to have it.

I styled it with this gorgeous Stone Link BraceletLayered Pendant Necklace and Lizard Embossed Clutch to complete the look.

Like every other style conscious girl out there, I have definitely contemplated the tutu skirt. While I love the look, the seamstress in me just cringes whenever I think of the hassle that comes along with all that layer of tulle. And then one fine day, I came along this faux tutu skirt, yes that's what I'm calling it because this skirt has not one single layer of tulle. It is made from some sort of mesh fabric that gives the illusion of a tulle skirt. It is incredibly soft and comfortable and who else can say that their tutu skirt is comfortable? I sure can!

I roughened up this super girly skirt by pairing it with my custom made "mean girl" crop sweater which I picked up from NYC during my last jaunt.

I'm not usually a t-shirt kinda gal but once in a while, I find one that is just too good to pass on. Like this one I found strolling through the streets of NYC. For as long as I can remember, I have loved my disney princesses. So what else is cooler than a Princess Jasmine tee, Princess Jasmine being a misfit of course! Oh, and spot the Aladdin tattoo on her arm! I am a sucker for details like that!

As fun as this tee is, I dressed it up with a full box pleated skirt and some simple heels and I had a blast with the laughs I had while wearing this tee.

My favorite part of fall has to be the knitwear. I love sweaters (or jumpers), cardigans, lightweight jackets, and the works and since Fall has decided to come early in my side of the globe, I am already reaching to the back of my closet to pick out my sweaters.

Another part of knitwear that I love so much is its ability to stretch. This is very important for me because I love specialty sweaters, no plain ones for me (well, with the exception of this one I'm wearing lol). But since most plus size designs tend to border on the plain side, the stretch serves me well and I can actually pull off straight sizes in most sweaters. Believe me when I say that I definitely take advantage of this fact.

Sweaters are very versatile because they can be paired with pretty much anything and you can achieve whatever look/style you want with them. For a corporate look, wear a button down shirt underneath and pair with some pants, for a casual look pair with a boyfriend jean and some sneakers. I tend to choose the dressy route with my sweaters and i love pairing them with skirts; pencil, mini, skater, you name it. Since faux leather isn't going anywhere soon, I paired this cable sweater with a simple leather miniskirt.

The Perfect Boyfriend.

Finding the right pair of boyfriend jeans can be quite a hassle, at least for me it is. Mainly because finding the right fit can be very frustrating. Either it's too tight to be considered "boyfriend" or the fit is just "off". It is common practice in the plus size world, to go a size up or two in order to achieve the desired loose fit. But there's a downside to that solution, since that baggy look can make us appear larger than we really are.
I personally like my boyfriend jeans to fit snug at the waist and hip and then loosely around the thighs and calf. I find that in order to achieve this, the denim has to have a bit of stretch.
If shopping around for a boyfriend jean, I would suggest trying it on in store. As a rule, I almost never buy jeans online since I have suffered from enough disappointing experiences to last me a lifetime. So when I find a piece that I like online, I call around until I find a store that has that piece for me to try on. Good news is, these days many stores offer a ship to store option were you can have their products shipped to a store near you. This boyfriend jean that I have on is by Torrid and they have several options available.

The sleeveless coat is becoming a sensation these days and I am feeling this sensation. I am wearing a  size large in this piece which is great as a layer but will not provide much shelter once it actually gets really cold. But try a large in straight sizes for sleeveless coats.

P.S: I got an overwhelming number of people asking about where to purchase the dress from my last post (here). So I decided to start linking the pieces seen on the blog and also finding similar pieces for those interested.

Grey Maxi

Maxi dresses are one of my all time favorite, go to items when I reach into my closet. Usually when you think maxi dresses, you think summer, flowy, easy breezy beautiful, which it can be. But it can also be a great transitional piece into the cooler seasons. For example, this maxi is made from a heavier knit so it'll be great for fall, especially paired with a leather moto jacket and a bootie or knee high boots for winter.

Fringe Detail.

Since Summer is officially at an end, I've been looking for pieces to wear for a night out that won't leave me shivering in the cool evening weather that we're having right now. I came across this jumpsuit on one of my jaunts to my local Fashion to Figure. Wasn't really my style until I eyed this fringe belt on display a couple of hangers away. Fringe is definitely my thing lol.

The belt adds a bit of drama and flair to this jumpsuit but also conceals and enhances at the right places. Another point in its favor, I skipped any shapewear for this look thanks to the belt and that makes it a winner in my opinion.

Denim Layer

I'm so ready for Fall to get here, so I've been sporting a lot of lightweight jackets and such. As much as I love Summer, I'm kinda ready for it to be over. Love this denim jacket which I randomly picked up at my local mall.
Not really a fan of the body con dress but I gave it a shot.

The Perfect Duo: High Waisted Pants & Ankara Crop Top

I wish I could say that crop tops and high waisted pants are one of my go to looks for effortless chic, but it really isn't. Mainly because finding the right high waisted pants for my plus size figure is quite exhausting really. There really is no formula for it to be honest. I pulled this look off basically because this jogger is from my size 24/26 days, and now its really massive around the waist and creates a nice gathered effect. I don't even bother trying on "high waisted" pants in my size these days because they all seem to be lacking the basic knowledge that most plus size women tend to have some sort of tummy bulge. Anyways, that'll be a discussion for another day.

I paired it with this Ankara cropped top which I made a couple of months ago and I must say, I love how this came together. Another plus, the comfort level of this outfit was unprecedented.

Denim Shift Dress & Open Toe Booties

Nothing beats the comfort of a shift dress. Add denim to the mix, and I'm a goner. The versatility of this dress knows no boundaries. I've paired it with pumps for a more sophisticated look and with caged sandals for an edgy look. Today, with these open toe booties just because I'm craving fall.
Finding the right shift dress can be tricky with a plus size figure, so a trick that has worked for me is going up one to two sizes to achieve the right fit.
